The Carriage Barn Equine Asssited Therapy Program’s Mission

7-14-09 032-1The Carriage Barn Equine Assisted Therapy Programs seek to promote the health and well-being of individuals of all ages with disabilities by enhancing their physical, psychological, cognitive and emotional healing and strengthening through equine activities.  Program activities further this purpose by utilizing horses to provide opportunities for participants to form unique relationships that nurture and empower them in a way that brings new insights, self-confidence, improved communication, and relaxation.

We began providing therapeutic services as The Carriage Barn, LLC in 2000.  The Program was spun off as a separate legal entity, and granted federal IRS not-for-profit status in 2003, as The Carriage Barn Equestrian Center Therapeutic Riding Program, Inc.

The Carriage Barn is a Member Center of the Professional Association for Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH), as well as various regional and national organizations.

Our primary location is a heritage farm in Portsmouth, NH, set on a remarkably secluded hilltop at the farm a few miles from downtown Portsmouth. The property is a historic, multi- generational farm preserved by a conservation easement that features barns, several acres of pasture, and an unbeatable view of the sunset over 42 acres.
